History of Entertainment and Recreation

Human kind has always enjoyed entertainment and recreational activities. The history of entertainment and recreation goes back in the early years of B.C. It started off in 4000 B.C when people started realizing that there should be something done during leisure time. They started of by searching things around them and finally they were able to figure out many things that they thought were useless. The Romans had a place called Coliseum where they used to watch races of chariots and other forms entertainment. The Olympic games are the greatest games of all times. They started off in 1860s and last till today. The Olympic games are quite historic games and are always talked about when it comes to the history of entertainment and recreation.

Greeks had theatres and big halls where they viewed drama and comedy. The entertainment in church like singing hymns and reading the abstracts from the bible was also introduced long time back. Most ancient and modern civilizations had experienced entertainment of some kind at some point in their lives. If we have a look at different civilizations like Middle ages, the life was not as easy for Americans as it is now. There used to be quite little time for leisure. Rarely there used to be jousting tournaments, hunting tournaments, chess and draught games, checkers etc. Some of the churches were against the use of music and leisure activities. We have seen evidences from the history that people continued to provide entertainment to the people and since then the entertainment industry began.

Entertainment and Recreation

When the industrial revolution hit the Britain in 1700s, it was then that the entertainment industry flourished. This industry helped in creating the modern factory designs. Machines were replaced by the human labor and people got more spare time to do leisure activities. This activity of getting leisure time was only popular in the cities. Village people had the same old routine. During the late 1700s, there were many leisure activities like fares and festivals arranged in the villages. They gave the locals a chance to relax themselves.

The entertainment was more vibrant during the 1860s. Musical shows and theatres in big halls used to take place. The films were shot that used to be on a film strip. There were no cinemas at that moment. Later on when the video cassettes and video cameras were invented, the era of films began. This gave rise to the cinema industry. The entertainment of 1920s and entertainment of 1940s is what we see in today’s theatres and movies. The history of entertainment and recreation tells us that there were many forms of new music that took birth during these eras. Entertainment in the time of Anglo-Saxons was primarily based upon fighting and Knight riders. The boys and girls had different habits.

Why children need Entertainment?
Entertainment plays an important role in the upbringing process of a child. It helps a child develops his skills and help him learn new things. Entertainment and recreation also gives parents a chance to have a rest from their children.
