Who are Slipknot?

Slipknot are the most popular heavy metal band in the world.  They have been delighting us with their music since 1995.  The bands current line up of talented artists have been shocking us with their costumes since 1999.

Although Slipknot are well respected for their brilliant music, they are most famous for the unique Halloween Slipknot masks.  These amazing caricatures bring the personality and artistry of the band into public view, and are far from gimmicks.

The Slipknot Masks

The Slipknot costumes consist of a boiler suit with a barcode printed on the back.  This clothing is uniform to the band and the barcode matches the one printed on their first release “Mate.  Feed.  Kill.  Repeat”.  The uniform look is designed to represent the anti-image philosophy of the band.

Each member of the band however has unique headwear, and replica slipknot masks are well sought after.  The current band members (Sid Wilson, Mick Thomson, Jim Root, Corey Taylor, Joey Jordison, Shawn Crahan, Paul Gray, Craig Jones, and Chris Fehn) go by the labels of 0 to 8, to further remove the “personal” aspect from the band.

Jim root is the Jester of the group.  His mask is riveted to leather straps to keep it in place, and has a pointy chin.
A Japanese White Kabuki mask, with extra red paint is strapped to Joey Jordison’s head.
Mick Thomson is the only band member whose nose is visible, sticking through his leather mask.  An act he can also do through the slots over his mouth.
A dreadlocked mask in the image of a ghoul is worn by Corey Taylor.
A black mask covered in needles, with a zip covered mouth opening is worn by Craig Jones.
Shawn Crahan wears a Clown’s face mask with a very large smile and patchy red hair.

With the release of each album the band’s image has been updated.  The slipknot new masks are a well kept secret and are almost as anticipated as the new music.  Whenever the band perform the song “Vermilion”, the band wear new slipknot masks that have been created from casts of the heads.  The video for Psychosocial shows the legendary purgatory masks burning.  This was designed to represent the burning of the band’s ego.
